The Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) has awarded a grant of up to $150,000 to Québec Net Positif to enrich the data in the Baromètre de la transition des entreprises until 2026.

SMEs in Transition is a collaborative action-research initiative serving Quebec manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the business ecosystem that supports them. Launched on May 17, 2023, the initiative will run until January 2025, and will be the subject of two reports, the first of which is presented below.

Quebec Net Positive unveils today the second edition of the Businesses Transition Barometer, the most comprehensive survey on climate action by Quebec businesses, with the addition of a new Transition Index. To carry out this important study, Quebec Net Positive commissioned the research firm Léger, which surveyed 596 Quebec business leaders between August 18 and September 13, 2023.

Denunciations of greenwashing, as well as forthcoming regulations surrounding the disclosure of sustainable commitments, seem to have chilled some businesses from making over-ambitious environmental commitments, or even talking about their existing initiatives.

Québec Net Positive launches the inaugural edition of the Businesses Transition Barometer. Climate emergency: employees are the main source of pressure for Quebec SMEs to act

With the Barometer, it is the first time that we have access to representative and exhaustive data on the level of commitment of Quebec businesses towards climate action and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

We are a partner of the McGill Sustainability Systems Initiative leading PIVOT, an action research project that uses social media to bring small business owners together to share their climate action goals, struggles and achievements. The National Film Board of Canada provided guidance on communication strategies and digital media.

By publishing this visual representation, we wish to highlight the existing and emerging growth sectors and levers for wealth and job creation, at the heart of the transformation towards a low-carbon future.

Open letter written by Québec Net Positif and co-signed by some twenty Quebec influencers: Let's seize the opportunity to position Quebec as a crossroads and gas pedal of the low-carbon economy, and thus strengthen our environmental leadership while creating a more prosperous and sustainable economy for all.

According to a study by Institut du Quebec, affiliated with the Conference Board of Canada, the province has important assets that could be leveraged to drive economic development in the context of the low-carbon economy. By positioning Quebec as a hub and accelerator of the low-carbon economy, we have the opportunity to strengthen our environmental leadership while creating a more prosperous and sustainable economy for all.

The research note presented here takes up the arguments presented in two reports published simultaneously by the IdQ: Le Québec sobre en carbone, l'avantage économique and Le Québec sobre en carbone, des débouchés pour les entreprises du Québec.
